Though Virendra Sehwag led North Zone has many able players, who have represented the country in the past or were still playing for the senior team, the Central Zone, led by ace fielder Mohammed Kaif looks no push over, especially after the stiff challenge it gave to the South Zone in the match played at Pune's Nehru Stadium last Sunday.
The Central Zone lost to South Zone only by seven runs and gave its rivals a run for its money in the match played on January 23.
Though Kaif did not contribute much with the bat, he led the team ably when the chips were down while chasing the target of 269 set by the South Zone. Central Zone's spinner Murali Kartik was a revelation as a batsman on that day as he clobbered a couple of fours and sixes nonchalantly and remained unbeaten.
For North Zone, besides the dashing opener Sehwag, they also look upto Dinesh Mongia, who is amongst runs once again, Ajay Ratra, Ajay Jadega, star off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and seamer Ashish Nehra to demolish the aspirations ofa fighting Central Zone team.
