Central Zone hold edge over East Zone

Rajkot:Fresh from their creditable win against a strong North Zone, a confident Central Zone led by Mohammed Kaif hold an edge over reigning champions East Zonein the Deodhar Trophy Limited overs cricket match to be played here tomorrow.

Kaif, who led from the front against North, would be looking forward to some good contributions with the bat from Test discard Sanjay Bangar, Amit Pagnis, Naman Ojha, J P Yadav, Suresh Raina and Raja Ali.

Central have four points from two matches.

Left arm spinner Murali Kartik will spearhead Central's bowling department with R P Singh, Harvinder Singh, Bangar and Yadav all capable of delivering the goods.

East Zone, who have struggled throughout the tournament and are on minus two points, have their task cut out with only their wicketkeeper Mahindra Singh Dhoni showing consistent form.

East's skipper Devang Gandhi will be hoping for good performances from S S Das, Rohan Gavaskar, L R Shukla, S Vasant Saravanan and Sanjib Sanyal.

East's bowling will be in the hands of S S Paul, Ranadeb Bose, Niranjan Behera and Sourashish Lahiri.

Central Zone:
