Challenger Trophy: Opening match delayed

Mumbai:The start of the opening match of the N K P Salve Challenger Trophy cricket tournament between India Seniors and India 'A' was delayed by half-an-hour after the players' clothings failed to arrive here in time.

The day and night affair at the Wankhede Stadium could not start at scheduled 2.30 pm as the clothings arrived from Bangalore 15 minutes later at 2:45.

Earlier, India Seniors captain Sourav Ganguly won the toss and elected to bat against the Rahul Dravid-led team in the first match of the three-team tournament.

The Seniors left out Irfan Pathan while the 'A' team ignored Robin Uthappa.

The match will see the return of Lakshmipathy Balaji to action after a long break from from the game due to an injury.


India Seniors:Sourav Ganguly (Capt), M S Dhoni (WK), Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Venugopal Rao, Neeraj Patel, Anil Kumble, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Gagandeep Singh, Rajesh Pawar, Shikhar Dhawan.

India 'A':Rahul Dravid (Capt), Dinesh Kaarthick (WK), Satyajit Parab, Dhiraj Yadav, Mohammad Kaif, Dinesh Mongia, Murali Kartik, Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, R P Singh, Yousuf Pathan.
