Islamabad:Shoaib Akhtar will have to explain his conduct in Australia and refusal to play in a domestic championship before Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) disciplinary committee on Friday, 24 hours ahead of the announcement of the squad for the tour of India.

The disciplinary committee is headed by Justice Amir Alam Khan and includes Abdul Salam Khawar, Maqbool Elahi Malik and legal advisor of PCB Syed Asghar Haider.

Significantly, the hearing has been scheduled just a day before the national selection committee meets on February 19 to select the squad for India.

The selectors were originally scheduled to meet on February 18 but had to postpone their meeting on account of various reasons, most apparent being to await a final verdict from the disciplinary committee on the charges against Shoaib.

Shoaib is facing a race against time to prove to PCB and selectors that he is fit for the Indian tour and also that he is not guilty of violating clauses of the code of conduct mentioned in his central contract, local daily The News reported.

Meanwhile, the bowler met PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan on Monday at the Board headquarters in Lahore.

A PCB official said the meeting had been arranged at the behest of Shoaib.

"The discussions centred around his fitness for the Indian tour and the inquiry against him for alleged violations of the central contract," he stated.
