Thiruvananthapuram:David C Mulford, U S Ambassador to India, on Tuesday said he was very much impressed by the improving sports relations between India and Pakistan.

The last Indo-Pak cricket series was one of the most spectacular sports initiatives. It showed that peace initiatives were generally supported by the people in India and Pakistan, he said at a meet-the-press programme in Thiruvananthapuram.

US had always been supportive towards Confidence Building Measures (CBM) between the two countries, though not as a referee or manager.' The public support here was for resolving issues.

On India's claim for a permanent membership of the UN Security Council, he said the US was talking with other countries on the matter.

"There is no anti-Indian element in this except for a long-standing commitment made to Japan," he said.
