Bangalore:Dinesh Borwankar played a captain's knock and left-arm spinner Vignesh Venkateshwaran bowled a superb spell that helped Karnataka Institute of Cricket (KIOC) to clinch the Tata Coffee Under 13 invitation tournament. They beat Bangalore Military School by 39 runs in the final held at the Bangalore Military School Ground.

Batting first, KIOC struggled against some accurate Military attack. Opener Manik Nath was caught behind for seven while southpaw Nirmal was deceived by a slower one to be caught and bowled. Skipper Dinesh stood like a rock on the other end facing 76 balls to score a solid 51 with just three fours.

The Military schoolboys threw themselves at everything and made run making a difficult job. Medium pacer Vikas was the pick of the bowlers claiming three for 19. KIOC could manage just 127 for seven in the allotted 30 overs.

KIOC who had lost to Bangalore Military school in the league stage learnt their lesson well and did not relax this time. Medium pacer Deepak got rid of Ravi Shankar and Ram Mehar within the first four overs.

But the Player of the Tournament Jay Prakash who had scores of 42, 82 not out and 54 in his previous three innings was the danger man. Left-arm spinner Vignesh who bowled a superb spell of 6 overs, 2 maidens, 10 runs and three wickets produced a gem of a delivery bowling Jay Prakash round his legs for 14. With this the Military School side was under pressure. Leg-spinner Pawan caused further damage by picking up 2 for 15 to finally dismiss Bangalore Military School for 88 runs. Nagendar top scored with 27.

Former state cricketer and coach Rajesh Kamat gave away the trophies.
