Taylor hits ton as England eves wallop Lanka

Pretoria:Claire Taylor blasted her second One-day international century as England eves routed by Sri Lanka by a mammoth 214 runs to garner full points in their second tie of the Women's World Cup in Pretoria here.

Earlier, opting to bat after winning the toss England riding on a fine 136 off 128 balls from Taylor, racked up a healthy 284 for four of their allotted overs. Taylor who stitched significant partnerships Charlotte Edwards and skipper Clare Connor struck 11 fours and one six.

England eves began their innings on a disastrous note when Laura Newton was trapped for three. The early setback didn't dampen their spirits as Taylor strung together 128 runs with Charlotte Edwards, who smacked eight fours in her knock off 63 before she perished to a catch off Priyanga de Alwis.

Taylor raised another century partnership of 119 with Clare Connorn which gave their innings the tempo they required towards the end. Praba Udawatte was the best of the Sri Lankan bowlers finishing with returns of 3-38.

Chasing 285 for victory, Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals and folded up for a measly 70 off just 26 overs. For England, Lucy Pearson and Jenny Gunn did the maximium damage scalping three wickets each in the lop-sided contest.
