Colombo:Defying the move of the Sri Lankan sports minister to dissolve the country's cricket board for alleged financial mismanagement in its functioning, top cricket officials and former national players headed by controversial former board president Thilanga Sumathipala have constituted a new committee.

The new committee includes former stalwarts like Aravinda de Silva, Duleep Mendis and Romesh Kaluwitharana among others.

It's worth recalling that Sri Lanka Cricket was taken over on Friday by a government committee, which claimed that it had misappropriate funds and did not follow government-laid guidelines.

Sports Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga was unavailable for his comments on the latest developments.
