Lankan cubs clinch ODI series against Pakistan

Lahore :Upul Tharanga blasted a breezy half-century to set up Sri Lanka Under-19 team's emphatic win over Pakistan to pocket the three-match Under-19 series 2-0 at the Qadhafi Stadium here.

Tharanga went into an attacking mode from the word go punishing the Pakistan opening bowlers -Nawaz Sardar and Zohaib Ahmed to all corners of the ground. His early assault ensured Lankans were off to a flying start thus easing the pressure on the middle-order.He aggressive vigil came to an end when he fell for 53 which came off just 40 balls and was studded with eleven boundaries.

Tharanga was well supported by Kaushal Silva who weighted in with a fine 46 laced with three hits to the fence. Chamara Kapugedera and Angelo Mathews landed the finishing punches in an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 47 as the Lankans reached the target in 47.2 overs

Earlier, medium-pacer Charita Jayaweera rocked the Pakistan innings in a hostile opening spell claiming four wickets to leave hosts doddering at 103 for seven.

Fayyaz Ahmed saved the blushes for Pakistan with a timely 68 to lift them to 233. Arsalan Anwar also chipped in with 38.
