Bangladesh PM Zia honours cricketers

Dhaka:Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia honoured its national cricketers for its stupendous maiden Test and ODI series victory over Zimbabwe at their own den in last January.

Zia distributed gold medals and cheques to 17 cricketers at a well-attended function here.Besides the players, coach Dav Whatmore, , team operation manager, fitness advisor and computer analyst were also honoured.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Fazlur Rahman and Bangladesh Cricket Board president Ali Asghar presented the Prime Minister with the first of 226 bats containing autographs of Bangladesh and Zimbabwe cricketers. Some 226 souvenir bats have been made, marking Bangladesh's 226-run win in the first Test.

Youth and Sports Secretary Syed Sujauddin Ahmed and former national cricket captains were also present on the occasion.
