Potchefstroom:West Indies women clinched the hurriedly-arranged three-match One-day series against South Africa after they took an unassailable 2-0 lead following a seven-wicket victory at the Tshwane University of Technology Oval here.

Making first use of the wicket after being sent in by West Indian captain Stephanie Power, the South African women were shot out for a paltry 134 off 40.4 overs. Daleen Terblanche was the only South African batswoman to show some defiance top-scoring with 33. Felicia Cummings was the chief wrecker-in-chief snaffling 3 for 30.

Set a target of 135 for victory, the Windies batters made short work of it overhauling the target in only 31.5 overs. Pamela Lavine led the way with a dazzling undefeated 50 of only 48 balls. She struck six scorching fours and two sixes. Nelly Williams also chipped in with a handy 40.

The third and final tie of this series, which was arranged at short notice following early exits of both sides from the World Cup, will also be played at the TUT Oval on Saturday.

Brief scores: South Africa 134 all out (40.4 overs). West Indies 135 for 3 (31.5 overs).
