Vivian Richards to ply golf trade in India

Bangalore:Cricket legend Sir Vivian Richards would be the star attraction at the third edition ofthe McDowell's Signature Celebrity Golf to be held at Classic Golf Resort at Gurgaon on April 23.

It's a charity golf event held in aid of the "CHAMPS Foundation", founded by Sunil Gavaskar, which supports former Indian international sportspersons.

Swashbuckling Richards would fly from Antigua for the event, in which confirmed participants include Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Suresh Oberoi, Pargat Singh, Syed Kirmani, Venkatesh Prasad, Digvijay Singh, Nonita Lal, Shruti Khanna, Madan Lal, Kiran More and Gundappa Viswanath.

Executive Vice-President (Marketing), UB Group Spirits Division, Alok Gupta, Tournament Director Charu Sharma and CHAPMS Foundation Trustee Viswanath told reporters here thetournament showcases golf and glamour for a worthy cause.

Cine star Madhavan won the event in the inaugural year in 2003 here, while the second edition held at Mumbai was bagged by Milkha Singh.

Viswanath said CHAMPS Foundation's objective is to provide monetary assistance to those Indian international sportspersons who have done well for India but are currentlyin need of financial assistance.

This year's event is being presented by DAKS-London.
