Reacting to Thomson's comments that the England would be thumped by Australia in the Ashes and that England seamer Matthew Hoggard was only a "net bowler" compared to the Aussie attack, Gough was quoted as saying in BBC Sport that the great Aussie lacks intelligence and that's why he's making such comments
"It's a lack of intelligence on Thomson's part," Gough said of the legend.
"Hoggard is a good Test bowler. Anyone who gets over 100 wickets is good and Hoggard will probably end up with more wickets than Thomson got." BBC Sport quoted.
Gough, who has retired from Tests but still plays One-day internationals for England, admitted that the series would be tough but believes England would have to play with confidence.
"We will need nine out of 11 players to be at the top of the game if we want to cause an upset," BBC Sport quoted.
