Melbourne:Australian middle-order batsman Brad Hodge is being sought by New South Wales to switch sides from Victoria for the for the Pura Cup champions next season. According to sources close to Hodge, NSW cricket officials have flown to Melbourne for a meeting with the talented batsman in a bid to cajole him to join the Pura Cup champions next season.

Hodge is the second Victorian cricketer to be linked with other states. Former Australian opener Matthew Elliott has expressed a desire to move to South Australia and had to lodge an appeal with Cricket Australia after Victoria thwarted his move to South Australia.

Hodge, who will play for English county Lancashire early on before pushing hard for a Test spot, has been a prolific run-getter in recent times and would be a prized catch for NSW if they can manage him to convince him to switch states.

It may be mentioned here that New South Wales's batting have been depleted following the retirements of the Waugh brothers and dashing opener Michael Slater. Their cup of woes were filled to the brim when utility all-rounder Michael Bevan switched loyalties and moved over to Tasmania.
