Sydney:The Australian women's team that won the 2005 World Cup has four debutants in its rank for the 2005-06 season.

Victorian duo of Kelly Applebee and Sarah Edwards will join New South Wales fast bowler Sarah Andrews and Queensland's Kirsten Pike as newcomers in the 20-member squad, announced by chairperson of selectors Margaret Jennings .

The first major challenge for the squad lead by Belinda Clark will be the England tour starting in July as they join their male counterparts in an Ashes series.

The new faces owe their places in the squad to successful performance in the domestic competition. "The four new members coming into the squad are young, talented players who we feel have the ability to keep developing and improving," said Margaret Jennings who herself is a former Australian skipper while talking to Agencies.

"Being a part of the senior squad will help fast-track and invigorate their development. The squad still retains a great deal of experience. That's an important element of succession planning for the Australian team - to keep injecting new talent and balancing that with the experience of other players who are still very valuable contributors."

The Squad:

Belinda Clark (captain), Karen Rolton, (vice-captain), Lisa Sthalekar, Sarah Andrews, Julia Price (wicketkeeper), Kelly Applebee, Alex Blackwell, Kate Blackwell, Louise Broadfoot, Leonie Coleman, Shannon Cunneen, Sarah Edwards, Cathryn Fitzpatrick, Julie Hayes, Melanie Jones, Lisa Keightley, Emma Liddell, Shelley Nitschke, Kirsten Pike, Clea Smith.
