"I'm very happy that I made it to the probables of the ICC World XI and am confident that I will make it to the final playing eleven in the Super Test," Laxman said today (May 10, 2005) on the sidelines of the inauguration of a cricket coaching camp in Hyderabad.
Laxman was one of the 30 players selected by the ICC yesterday ( May 9, 2005) for the Super Test Series which will be held in Sydney from October 14 to 19. The ICC also named another 30-member squad for three One-dayers against the world champions.
"It's a great honour to be selected in the World XI. Perhaps, my performance in Australia played a big role in finding me a place among the top players of the world," Laxman said.
The stylish middle-order batsman said he had started fitness training for the past two weeks and would concentrate more on that aspect ahead of the cricket season.
Laxman will also be going to England to play Club cricket. "Nevertheless, I will keep my game going and try to have a good season this year," he said.
The batsman from Hyderabad had earlier wondered as to why he was dropped in the One-day series against Pakistan despite having a good batting record.
