Kumble elated over selection to World XI probables

Bangalore:Spin ace Anil Kumble today (May 11, 2005) expressed happiness for being named among the International Cricket Council (ICC) World XI Test probables to take on world champion Australia in the Johnnie Walker Super Series in October.

"It's nice to be part of the 30 short-listed cricketers. It's good to be there," he told reporters on the sidelines of a press conference where he turned up to support wheelchairtennis player Boniface Prabhu.

"It's six months away. So, one has to keep performing to "get into the final squad", he added.

'Cricket an ideal sport for marketing':

The ace Indian leg-spinner said that cricket is a fantastic and ideal sport for marketing bycorporates and other sports simply do not have in them to attract that much attention.

"Cricket will always remain the sport that will definitely get the attention," he said in Bangalore.

"Cricket as a marketing sport...it's fantastic for corporates".

"After every four minutes, he (those who sponsor) gets half-a-minute of ad space on television. Which other sports has....?. In that sense, cricket is an ideal sport formarketing".

"That's probably the reason cricket gets maximum share," he said.

Kumble also expressed hope that corporates would come forward to support other sports as well. With heroes emerging in other sports as well, he hoped that this factor wouldcontribute to more support for them.
