Vadodara:India's left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan has been cleared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to play for English country Middlesex as a late replacement for South African quickie Nantie Hayward.

The Baroda lad received the NOC from the board on Tuesday and will take off for London on Thursday on a six-week sojourn.

It's worth mentioning that Pathan had earlier planned to join the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai to further hone his bowling skills, but abandoned the idea as the Middlesex offer would give him valuable match-practice ahead of the July-August tri-series in Sri Lanka.
