Lahore:Pakistan's enigmatic speed merchant Shoaib Akhtar has preponed his stint with county Worcestershire and is expected to join the side in the first week of June although he is contracted to play for them only from July 1.

Shoaib who hasn't played much of competitive cricket of late, except for a few domestic Twenty20 games, would be taking part in some some preparatory games arranged by the county coach and Director Tom Moody.

Shoaib, who has snaffled 144 Test and 186 One-day international wickets, would look to lift the fortunes of Worcestershire who finished seventh in the Championship last season and were relegated to division two.

Besides playing practice games for Worcestershire in June, the 29-year-old pacer would also play in the June 14 chairty game for the Tsunami victims at Lord's. He would also play in the three matches between the World eleven and Asian eleven to be held in Houston.
