Islamabad:Springing to the defence of tantrum-prone Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar, former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Lt Gen (retd) Tauqir Zia said that the fast bowler was a still match-winner and should be used in a proper manner.

Zia was quoted as saying in a Pakistan daily The News that Shoaib has all the ability to win the matches for the country.

"There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he still is a match winner and has the ability to single-handedly turn the tables on the opponents," he said.

Making a strong call to repose confidence in the pace bowler, Zia said Shoaib is a bowler who can turn things around any moment on a cricket field.

"He definitely is an asset for the country and need is to give him confidence and handle him the way a star like him deserves," he said.

Zia asserted during his stint as PCB he found nothing amiss in Shoaib's behaviour.

"No manager or coach during my tenure as the head of the PCB has ever had any problem with him. However, at the same time we treated him, the way we treated all other senior players in the team," he said.

Zia said that Shoaib needed the support from the high and the mighty in the PCB to get back his confidence.

"There is no doubt that he had won many matches for the country and has the ability to do so in future also. The fit and confident Shoaib still is the most feared fast bowler in the world."
