Thiruvananthapuram:The recommendations made by the International Cricket Council (ICC) cricket committee on One-day game rules would make the game more interesting, former India captain and committee chairman Sunil Gavaskar said.

Gavaskar, on a brief visit in Thiruvananthapuram, also said he expected that the new coach Greg Chappell would help Team India move on to the 'number one spot.'

"The suggestion on giving blocks of overs to the fielding captains for fielding restrictions will make the game more interesting because there was a feeling that between the 16th to 40th overs the game was a little predictable. So, giving the fielding side the option of having two blocks of five overs each," he said at the airport on his arrival.

"We are hoping it will make the game more interesting."

On the appointment of Chappell as the Indian team coach, the batting legend said "the new coach will take India to the number one spot."

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary S K Nair, who was present, sought to play down a question as to why an Indian was not selected as coach.

"The coach was selected by a high power committee of eminent persons like Gavaskar," Nair said.
