Mumbai:A city court today remanded Ashok Kamdar alias Ashok Royal, an associate of arrested bookie Shoban Mehta, to judicial custody till June 8 for alleged involvement in cricket betting.

Public Prosecutor sought Kamdar's custody stating that they still needed to investigate the matter further.

Opposing the custody, Kamdar's lawyer Sayaji Nangre pointed out that police's last remand application and today's remand application were identical. He asked what the policehad done since his arrest on May 20.

Kamdar's lawyer said the police claim about the existence of a betting syndicate was false. The IB and CBI had all the names of the bookies, and the name of Kamdar did not figuretherein, he said.

He alleged that the police was putting pressure on Kamdar by threatening to book him under MCOCA.

Kamdar has also filed bail application which would come up for hearing tomorrow. The court would also hear the bail application of Shobhan Mehta tomorrow.
