ICC bullish on India hosting 2006 Champions Trophy

London:ICC today said it was optimistic that the India would host the Champion's Trophy next year following the Union Cabinet decision to waive tax on income from international sporting event hosted in the country.

"This is a welcome move that should clear the way for the Champion's Trophy to be held in India in 2006," ICC President Ehsan Mani said in a statement here.

He said though the ICC is yet to receive official notification of the Cabinet decision he has spoken to senior officials of the BCCI who have confirmed that the Indian government has approved tax exemption for international sporting events in India.

"It has always been the ICC's intention to have this tournament in India and the ta issue in the final barrier to allowing us to confirm these arrangements," Mani said.
