After a bitterly contested league stage, the toppers KIOC XI and Howrah Union fielded their best team for the title clash. With a heavy cloud cover and a damp outfield, KIOC skipper Chethan William did KIOC a favour by winning the toss and deciding to bowl first.
Promising medium pacer Rajesh Singh made full use of the favourable conditions removing the top four of Howrah Union, all caught by Ranji player Deepak Chougle in the first slip. Left- arm spinner Vinoo Prasad and off-spinner Deepak Chougle picked up three wickets each and the Kolkata outfit were shot out for a paltry 87. KIOC romped home comfortably with Vinoo Prasad and Nihal Alva remaining unbeaten on 27 and 22 respectively.
Howrah Union C A, Kolkata 87 all out (Rajesh Singh 4 for 7, Deepak Chougle 3 for 11, Vinoo Prasad 3 for 18) lost to KIOC XI 88 for 2 in 12 overs (Vinoo Prasad 27 not out, Nihal Alva 22 not out) by 8 wickets.
Elsewhere, KIOC XI Juniors defeated Howrah Union Juniors by 10 wickets in the semi finals. Left-arm spinner Vignesh was the wrecker in chief with 4 for 11 off his six overs.
