Rizwan Shamshad authors ONGC title win

New Delhi:Veteran Rizwan Shamshad belted a superb century under scorching conditions to help Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) script a 70-run victory over Indian Airlines in the summit clash of the Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial cricket tournament at the Khalsa College ground here.

Shamshad, who came to the wicket with his side in a bit of trouble at 73 for four, stabilised the innings, raising a sixth-wicket stand of 142 in association with Amit Sharma to propel ONGC to 259/7 off 40 overs.

Shamshad clubbed 11 boundaries and one six from 87 balls, while Sharma weighted in with an authoritative half-century.

Sharma made 56 from 62 balls with the help of five fours and one six.

Set 260 for win, Indian Airlines got off to whirlwind start with skipper and India discard Vijay Dahiya pounding a blistering 63 from only 45 balls, studded with 12 fours.

Indian Airlines were well served by Manish Sharma who made a breezy 40 before a middle-order collapse saw Indian Airlines surrender the iniatitive and the match as they were bowled out for 189 off 34.4 overs.
