Jamshedpur:Former Indian Test opener Arun Lal who played a crucial role in reviving Bengal's fortune in domestic cricket in the early 90s feels Jharkhand players need to develop mental prowess besides ironing out their technical flaws to perform better in the domestic circuit.

Lal, who formally took over as a consultant coach of Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA), attended the opening day of the 21-day conditioning camp for Ranji players here yesterday.

During his three-day stay, the former Bengal coach primarily focused on batting techniques and development of mental strengths of the cricketers.

Lal would train the cricketers of Ranji and other age groups for three days a week. He was accompanied by physio Rahul Deb.

''I would try my best to rectify the techniques of the cricketers but my thrust would be on making them mentally stronger. After all cricket is all about mind and one should start preparing for the big occasion at an early stage,'' opined the 49-year old coach.

Lal expressed confiedence that the state, at present playing in the plate group of Ranji Trophy, would qualify to the elite group this season provided they play to their potential.
