Kolkata:Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Jagmohan Dalmiya welcomed International Cricket Council (ICC)-appointed arbitrator Albie Sachs's decision to reduce the six-ODI ban on Sourav Ganguly, but said he would have been 'happier' had the punishment been fully lifted.

''This decision will help Ganguly. It will help him play in Sri Lanka from the third match itself and come back to the mainstream of cricket quickly,'' Dalmiya said minutes after justice Sachs anounced his decision.

''I am happy, but I would have been happier if the ban order was fully reversed,'' said Dalmiya.

Ganguly was banned for six ODIs for the team's slow over rate in the Ahmedabad ODI against Pakistan in April.
