"Chappell would not attend the meeting tomorrow to choose the captain, but he would be present at the selectors meeting the next day to pick the rest of the squad members," Indian cricket board secretary S K Nair told PTI from Thiruvananthapuram.
Meanwhile, the BCCI is awaiting the update on the fitness status of Sachin Tendulkar, the board secretary said.
"We have asked team physiotherapist John Gloster to give an update on Tendulkar's fitness status and his progress. We would be talking to Tendulkar too on the matter before selecting the team," Nair said.
Tendulkar underwent surgery in London for his tennis elbow injury at the end of May and was ruled out of cricket from between 12 to 16 weeks.
Asked about the injury sustained by Irfan Pathan, which has ruled him out of the forthcoming Asia XI v Africa XI Best-of-three One-day international series, Nair said that report was also awaited.
Other BCCI sources revealed that the Vadodara-born left-arm paceman suffered an injury on his right shoulder when he fell while fielding the ball on the boundary during India's tri-series final against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
"The MRI scan report of the injury is already with Gloster who would inform the board before the selection committee meeting to choose the complete squad on Saturday," they added.
