Cape town:South Africa's cricket captain, Graeme Smith, says he need get a break from cricket. He has been playing cricket without a break the past 12 months and says he does not want to see a bat the next few weeks.

Smith said, "You reach a point in your life when you decide things cannot continue in this way."

"I have been playing without a break for a year and the next two weeks I want to take a holiday and not think about cricket."

"Now that I do not have a girlfriend in my life anymore, I can do the things I want to and just relax." He indicated with this statement that his relationship with model Minki van der Westhuizen was something of the past.

"I will still work on my fitness and stick to the program given to us by Adrian (le Roux, fitness expert). But I do not want to touch a bat until a day before the first bonus match for Jacques (Kallis) in Cape Town."

Smith also confirmed that he was not returning to his English County, Somerset, for their international Pro20 tournament to be played in Leicester next month.

"The decision was taken because this will be a long, exhausting season for the South African team and I want to save all my energy," Smith said.
