Hyderabad:Two old city rowdy shooters, allegedly involved in conspiring to eliminate cricketer Mohd Azharuddin, have been taken into custody by Maharashtra police in connection with the life threat issued to the former Indian Cricket captain, police sources said here.

Rafiq Bin Shimlan, a rowdy shooter and his accomplice, have been reportedly picked up from the city following the confession of a underworld conduit arrested earlier by Aurangabad police about the plans to kill Azharuddin, police sources said today.

These two have been taken to Maharashtra, they said.

Meanwhile, police here was frantically trying during last three days to locate the duo, whose whereabouts were not known even to their family members.

Ghouse's relative filed an FIR at a local police station terming him missing since Saturday while Shimlan's daughter complained to police yesterday that he was missing from home since last five days.

City police commissioner V Dinesh Reddy had yesterday told reporters "We believe his (Azaruddin's) life is still under threat and we will continue to provide him security,"

Last week, four personal security officers had been drafted by the police to guard Azhar in a batch of two officers per shift following threatening calls he allegedly received.

Discreet inquiries have been launched over the life threat to the former captain by the underworld and also information is being collected from Azharuddin himself, an official source confirmed to PTI.

He said a tight vigil is being followed over the issue and apart from these two arrests, some more "suspected elements have been picked up for interrogation in the old city area."

When asked about the presence of a four-member underworld gang in the city to chalk out the financial settlement' with Azharuddin, the official sources denied any knowledge of such information.
