Shukla to lead Under-19 team against Aussies

Kolkata:Ravi Kant Shukla of U.P will lead a 15-member India (Under-19) team for a five-match One-day series against Australia to be played later this month.

The team was finalised at a meeting of the Junior Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) here today.

Briefing newspersons after the meeting, BCCI Joint Secretary Gautam Dasgupta, Convenor of the Junior Selection Committee, said that the matches would be played at Mohali (Sept 19 and 21), Dharamsala (Sept 24 and 25) and Delhi (Sept 28).

Following is the team:

Ravi Kant Shukla (U.P- Captain), Anirudh Srikkant (T.N.), Ankit Rawat (Haryana), Mayank Tehlan (Delhi), Ali Murtaza (U.P.), Rohit Sharma (Mumbai), Arindam Ghosh (Bengal), A G Pradip (A.P.), Pinal Shah (Baroda - Wicket Keeper), Piyush Chawla (U.P.), Shabaz Nadim (Jharkhand), Pragyan Ojha (Hyderabad), Y O Mahesh (T.N.), Anand Rajan (M.P.) and Abu Nachim Ahmed (Assam).

Venkatesh Prasad has been appointed the Coach, Muthu Kumar as Physio-cum-Trainer and A Prasanna as Video Analyst, of the squad.

Mahesh, Anand Rajan and Nachim Ahmed are pace bowlers, Piyush Chawla, leg spinner and Nadim, Ojha are left arm spinners.

Dasgupta said that the ODI series would be a part of India's preparation for the coming Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka in February.

He said that after the series, the Indian team would get further match practice during Afro-Asian Under-19 meet to be played in Visakhapatnam in November, folowing which a 25-meber probable squad would be chosen.
