The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) announced Friday that Gordon will serve as both WICB president and chairman of the Board of ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 (ICC CWC WI 2007) Inc.
The decision to hand both roles to Gordon raises eyebrows in some quarters with many in the region arguing that there should be a clear separation between the World Cup planning and the operations of the beleaguered WICB.
According to media reports, former WICB president Pat Rousseau and former Trinidad&Tobago cricket chief Alloy Lequay were in the running to replace Brancker.
Gordon's appointment follows the sudden resignation of Brancker, who quit in disgust after a very public spat with World Cup managing director Chris Dehring.
The full World Cup board has also resigned and the WICb said a new board will be announced shortly with representation from all the host countries. ICC CWC WI 2007 is a fully owned subsidiary of the WICB.
