Chasing a modest target of 231, the Aussie opening pair of Graeme Skennar and Tom Cooper put on 118 runs for the first wicket and surpassed the Indian score in just 34.3 overs.
While Skennar scored a quickfire 64 of just 45 balls, studded with seven fours and four sixes, Tom Cooper's 62 was a more patient effort but still included eight fours and two sixes.
Barring their captain, which the Aussies have been rotating in this five-match series, Aaron Finch who fell cheaply (4), David Warner (34 no) and Moises Henriques (42) maintained a cool head to achieve the target on the excellent batting wicket at Mohali.
For the Indians, barring Piyush Shukla (55), no other batsman made an effort to stay at the crease despite the fact that many of them were able to score freely and reach 30s, including captain Ravikant Shukla (33).
The Indians even failed to play out their overs getting dismissed in 48.3 overs. Jackson Bird was the most successful bowler for the Aussies taking three wickets. The two teams will now move to Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh for the next two matches of the series.
