India Seniors win the toss against India A

Mohali:India Seniors' captain Mohammad Kaif won the toss and elected to bat against India 'A' in the opening limited overs cricket match of the Challenger Series for at the PCA Stadium here today.

The players observed a minute's silence at the start of the match to condole the death of thousands of people in the deadly earthquake that rocked parts of India and Pakistan onSaturday.

The players will wear black armband throughout the tournament, Punjab Cricket Association said. The PCA will also contribute to the relief fund for the victims of the tragedy.

The match will see Sachin Tendulkar play his first competitive cricket in six months. He missed the tours of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe after undergoing a corrective surgery onhis left arm to treat tennis elbow five months ago.

Kaif was named Seniors captain after Sourav Ganguly pulled out of the series with a 'mild symptom' of tennis elbow on the right arm. Ganguly has been advised 10 days' rest.


India Seniors: Mohammad Kaif (captain), Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Y Venugopal Rao, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Murali Kartik, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan and Jai Prakash Yadav. 12th man: Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan.

India 'A': VVS Laxman (captain), Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Hemang Badani, Niraj Patel, Dheeraj Jadhav, Dinesh Kaarthick, Ramesh Powar, Rudra Pratap Singh, Laxmipathy Balaji and VRV Singh. 12th man: Shanbaz Nadeem.

Umpires: I Shivram and M R Singh

Third Umpire: T K Handu

Match Referee: Sunil Chaturvedi.
