Perth:Former Zimbabwe all-rounder Sean Ervine said he faces knee reconstruction surgery and won't play in the coming Australian domestic cricket season with Western Australia.

Ervine, 22, played for English county Hampshire but wrenched his left knee while bowling in the final match of the season.

His injury was confirmed Monday and Ervine said he will have surgery next week, putting him out of cricket for up to nine months.

"It's pretty disappointing after having such a successful season at Hampshire," Ervine said on Monday.

"I was looking forward to coming back to Perth and pushing hard for a place in the Warriors (WA) side but unfortunately it's not to be.

"That said I'm fully committed to working hard throughout my rehabilitation and I'm confident my best cricket is still ahead of me."

Ervine quit Zimbabwe last year and his return of 821 runs and 42 wickets for Hampshire was impressive enough to have him mentioned as a possible future England representative after meeting residential requirements.
