Mohali:V V S Laxman today denied there was any pressure on any of the players to prove themselves in the Challenger Series limited overs cricket tournament for the N K P Salve Trophy.

"It is unfair to say that the Ranji Trophy players had a point to prove. We talked about playing as a team and did not want a situation where the players were looking at individual performances," Laxman said after leading India 'A' to a thrilling one-wicket victory over India Seniors in the opening match of the series.

Chasing 290, the 'A' team overhauled the target with two balls to spare.

Laxman complimented the role of the middle and lower order whose gritty performance saw the team home.

"The partnership between Dinesh Kaarthick and Niraj Patel really set it up for us. Rudra Pratap Singh and V R V Singh are both amazing talents. V R V is probably one of thefastest bowlers in the country and R P has gained from the Zimbabwe experience," Laxman said.

Losing captain Mohammad Kaif pointed out the need to play as unit which the 'A' team did to perfection.

"The fact that they had a highest score of 48 (Laxman) and still went on to make 290 shows that you need to have partnerships which we did not have," Kaif said.

But Kaif defended his bowlers who were expensive.

"We bowled well. We probably did not do well with the new ball but pulled back in the middle overs. The spinners did well but then V R V Singh (25 no) played an amazing knock. I did not expect a number 10 batsman to play so well," he said.
