'Dravid's appointment is a good call. He has been there for a long time and will make good use of his ability to read the game,' Kumble, who was here in connection with launch of a "Samsung" product, told mediapersons here.
'He has on occasions assumed the role of a captain and that should serve him in good stead,' Kumble, who has been left out of the team for Sri Lanka due to an injury, said.
On the team to play the Sri Lankans, Kumble opined it was a good side with "a decent balance" and said people would get to witness good cricket.
As for his injury, the seniormost player in the Indian team said 'My injury is nothing to worry about. It is a small niggle on the back. With long season ahead, I did not want to take a chance. Everything should be fine very soon'.
Saying that it would have been great to be part of a World XI team, Kumble said he thought he would get a call to play against the Australians.
'After having performed well last season, I was expecting the call but selection is an area where I have no control over. But these things are a part and parcel of the game. I take it in my stride'.
On the potential of young tweaker Piyush Chawla, he said 'I was not able to catch all the action on the Challenger series because of cable problem. From the glimpses of what I got to see of him, Chawla holds a lot of promise and the coming first class season will throw more light on him'.
