Gujarat out for 159 in rain marred Ranji match

Tirunelveli:Tamil Nadu were 28 for one in reply to Gujarat's first innings score of 159 in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'A' match when incessant rains curtailed the third and penultimate day's play today after lunch.

The second day's play yesterday was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Gujarat lost two quick wickets when play resumed this morning.

Bhavik Thakkur was the first to go without adding any more runs to his 20 made on the first day. He was caught behind by Dinesh Kaarthik off R.Naresh, who clean bowled H.Wadekar (zero) in his next delivery.

Mukund Parmar, looking to steady the innings, also did not last long edging to Kaarthik off left arm medium pacer Naresh when he was on 26 (2x4), leaving the visitors at 143/7.

Gujarat lost two more wickets at 153 with Siddarth Trivedi (17) being stumped by Kaarthik off Vidyuth Sivaramakrishnan and Jesuraj scalped Hitesh Majumdar (3).

However,Gujarat benefited 46 runs by way of extras to post 159.Aashish Kapoor (3/46) and R.Naresh (3/21) were the main wicket-takers.

In reply, Tamil Nadu lost opener Anirudha Srikkanth (13) caught by wicket-keeper Nilesh Modi off Lalit Patel.

When stumps were drawn due to rain, Vidyuth (8) and C Hemanth Kumar (4) were at the crease.
