South Africa wins toss and elects to bowl

Perth:South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl on the opening day of the three-day tour match against Western Australia here.

The South Africans were led by wicketkeeper Mark Boucher following an elbow injury to stand-in captain Jacques Kallis. Regular captain Graeme Smith is also out with a finger injury.

The Proteas are using the three-day encounter at the Western Australian Cricket Association Ground as a warm-up to the first Test against Australia, which starts at the same venue on December 16.

Australian Test opener Justin Langer, who is returning from injury, is captaining the Western Australian side and opened the batting with Chris Rogers.

Conditions at the ground were overcast with a chance of light showers.


South Africa: AB de Villiers, Jacques Rudolph, Herschelle Gibbs, Ashwell Prince, Justin Kemp, Mark Boucher (c), Shaun Pollock, Nicky Boje, Charl Langeveldt, Makhaya Ntini, Andre Nel, Garnett Kruger (12th man).

Western Australia: Justin Langer (c), Chris Rogers, Clint Herron, Marcus North, Adam Voges, David Bandy, Shawn Gillies, Luke Ronchi, Beau Casson, Steve Maggofin, Ben Edmondson, Matthew Inness (12th man).

Umpires: Bruce Bennett (AUS), Ian Lock (AUS).
