New Delhi:Sarandeep Singh and Rajan Gupta were today axed from the squad for the third match as Delhi selectors attempted to put the team back on the rails after the humiliating defeat against Bengal in the Ranji Trophy competition this week.

Kuldeep Rawat and Mayank Tehlan came into the squad -- for the third round match against Maharashtra from Dec 9 to 12 -- that was selected after a four-hour meeting of the selectors at the Ferozshah Kotla.

The talking point of course was Yashpal Sharma, the former Test player and selector, who was conspicuous by his absence.

Sharma had resigned as selector after being thrown out as national selector but DDCA President Arun Jaitley had asked him to reconsider it.

The 1983 World Cup hero, however, chose not to attend today's meeting. Anil Jain chaired the meeting in his absence.

Ashish Nehra was a notable name missing from the squad. Jain said the left-arm seamer was still recuperating from a lower back niggle.

The 15-member squad: Amit Bhandari (captain), Aakash Chopra, Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Tehlan, Mithun Manhas, Pradeep Chawla, Varun Kumar, Kunal Lall, Chetanya Nanda, Yogesh Sachdewa, Rahul Sanghvi, Mukesh Deewan, Aditya Jain, Rajat Bhatia and Kuldeep Rawat.
