Bangalore:Aided by a scintillating performance by its bowlers Karnataka today defeated Delhi by 167 runs in the Elite "A" group Ranji trophy cricket league and earned four points to take their tally to 12 from six outings.

Karnataka declared their second innings at 280 runs for the loss of eight wickets setting a victory target of 306 runs to Delhi.

A devastating spell by ace leg spinner Anil Kumble (3/63), Sunil Joshi (3/24) and N C Aiyappa (2/20) rattled the Delhi innings and the visitors were bundled out for a paltry 138 in 60.4 overs.

R Vinaykumar and B Akhil shared a wicket each between them.

Virender Sehwag-led Delhi began their reply on a disastrous note loosing its opener Shikhar Dhayan for a duck.

Delhi's batting line collapsed after the side managed to stretch its score beyond 100 runs and lost wickets at frequent intervals.

Joshi levelled the record of 343 wickets that stood in the name of Raghuram Bhat when he scalped the wicket of Abhishek Sharma.

Bhat has carved the record from 71 matches, while Joshi reached the mark from 80 matches.

With this victory, Karnataka improved its chances of qualifying to the semi-finals, but has to do well against Gujarat in their last league match.

Brief Scores: Karnataka 283 and 280 for 8 declared. Delhi 258 and 138.
