Chasing a paltry first innings total of 163 runs, Gujarat which began from their overnight score of 6 runs this morning, lost the entire top order with the first 23 overs as the Karnataka pacers exploited the early morning conditions.
Openers Nilesh Modi (6) was the first to go clean bowled by N C Aiyappa in the fourth over of the day. Azar Bilakia (2) who came in next was trapped leg before by the other seamer Vinay Kumar in the 9th over.
In the very next over Aiyappa castled the second opener Akash Christian (12) to leave Gujarat reeling at 21 for 3. Aiyappa who bowled with a good amount of pace and seamed the ball had middle-order batsman Niraj Patel (5) nick to the keepeer Tilak Naidu.
Anant Brahmbhatt (20) and Kirat Damani(0) who came in later snapped up by medium pacers B Akhil and Stuart Binny respectively to leave Gujarat tottering for 67 for 6.
But Gujarat captain Mukund Parmar and Hemal Vatekar tried to look positive and went for their shots and helped Gujarat reach 93 for 6 at lunch.
