Tamil Nadu-Delhi encounter ends in a draw

Chennai:In a thrilling encounter that ended in a draw, Tamil Nadu gained two points on a first innings lead over Delhi in their last round robin league (Elite 'A') of the National Ranji Trophy Cricket here today.

Tamil Nadu ended the season with a total of 11 points, as against Delhi's six.

It was a creditable show by Delhi as they came back into the match after being 85 for 3 (in reply to the hosts first innings score of 481 for 6 decl) to be all out for 414, thanks to a superb effort from Rajat Bhatia.

Bhatia's heroic 185 resulted in his being the top scorer for Delhi before being caught at long off by Aashish Kapoor off Ramkumar. His 418 minute stay at the wicket contained 21 hits to the fence and three sixes. He also shared 82 runs for the ninth wicket with Amit Bhandari, who added 10 runs today to his overnight score of 10. He was stumped off Sriram.

Delhi needed to make 250 runs from 39 overs for a win as Tamil Nadu captain Badrinath declared its second innings at 182 for 6 in 33 overs.

Though Shikhar Dhawan made a valiant effort with Mithun Minhas, Delhi could muster 117 runs for the loss of opener Akash Chopra's wicket (16-4 fours) in 32 overs, before the match was called off in the eighth mandatory over.

Earlier,Badrinath scored 82 runs in as many balls in Tamil Nadu's second innings. Sharath was unbeaten on 46.
