Mumbai:The Indian Cricket Board's (BCCI) umpires' sub-committee has proposed to increase the fees of umpires by a substantial Rs. 3000 per match day for all first class matches in India.

Explaining the sub-committee's plans, chairman and BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi said this would take their fees to Rs. 5000 per match day, from the present Rs. 2000.

Apart from the committee deciding to review the current umpires' panels after the current season ends; it has decided to encourage retired first class cricketers to take to umpiring.

Among the other significant proposals, which will be scrutinised by the Working Committee of the BCCI, is an umpire's qualifying examination for retired first class cricketers that will be held in June-July.
