Nagpur:England suffered a massive blow on the eve of the first Test against India when their captain Michael Vaughan was ruled out of the three-match series due to a knee-injury.

All-rounder and Ashes hero Andrew Flintoff has been named skipper for the opening Test at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) ground beginning here from March 1.

Vaughan underwent a fitness test this morning after which he was ruled out from the entire Test series. He would be flying back home this evening, England team media manager Andrew Wallpore told reporters here.

The tourists have already lost the services of vice-captain and opener Marcus Trescothick, who returned home two days back for ''personal reasons.''
