Johannesburg:Nobel Peace laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who turns 75 this month, received a personalised South African jersey as a birthday gift from captain Graeme Smith before the second Standard Bank ODI against Australia.

Before the match at Sahara Park Newlands yesterday, Smith handed over the shirt bearing the captain's number 15 and written on it was ''The Arch'', the name Archbishop Tutu is affectionately known by.

Smith later said, ''It is an honour and a great privilege to present Archbishop Tutu with the shirt. He is a South African icon, and all South Africans look up to him with pride. His dignity, strength and courage has been incredible and we can only try and follow his example on the field.'' Incidentally South Africa crushed Australia by 196 runs in the match with Makhaya Ntini as the wrecker-in-chief, claiming six for 22.

The United Cricket Board of South Africa and the SABC had earlier announced that they would co-host a testimonial dinner for the Nobel Peace laureate on March 29, to be attended by players from both the South African and Australian teams.

Yesterday's match was also dedicated to Archbishop Tutu and funds raised at the testimonial dinner and the match would be donated to the Desmond Tutu Diversity Trust.
