Lahore:Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has given the nod to appoint former Test captains Zaheer Abbas and Waqar Younis as manager and bowling coach of Pakistan cricket team.

''All the indications are that the Chairman Shaharyar Khan and Director Cricket Operations Saleem Altaf had reached a consensus on appointing Abbas as Pakistan manager and Waqar as the bowling coach,'' The News reported today quoting a PCB source.

''The two have been picked from a shortlist of candidates with Waqar's appointment also being backed by captain Inzamam who feels that with young bowlers coming into the national side, Waqar can play a big role in their development at the top level,'' the newspaper said.

''While Abbas' appointment is more or less confirmed starting from the Sri Lankan tour, there is some discussion still on Waqar particularly about his tenure. The board is certain to at least announce the manager this week. While the bowling coach issue might be put before the ad-hoc committee at its meeting on March 28,'' it added.

Pakistan are touring Sri Lanka to play two Tests and three one-day matches starting March 13.
