Mumbai:Former India wicket-keeper Farookh Engineer today expressed anguish on the English cricketers being abused by Indian spectators day before yesterday on the second day of the third and final Test between India and England, at the Wankhede Stadium here.

Engineer, who is in Mumbai for the match today, was informed by former England all rounder-turned commentator Ian Botham that skipper Andrew Flintoff and pacemam Matthew Hoggard were hurled expletives by a section of the crowd at the jam packed stadium.

''I felt very embarrassed when Ian told me about it,'' said a disappointed Engineer. ''I am a 'pucca' Bombayite and Indian at heart and it is embarrassing that it happened in my town and country. I did not expect it to come down to this level. I certainly dont endorse this behaviour.''
