Lucknow:Decision by Uttar Pradesh government to deny permission for holding the much-awaited Ranji Trophy One-Day final at the K D Singh Babu Stadium here tomorrow has not only broken the heart of the cricket lovers, but also resulted in substantial financial loss to a former Ranji player.

Jasbir Singh, the beneficiary of the final match, has suffered a financial loss to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh, owing to the denial of permission by the state government to hold the big ticket clash.

''I forked out Rs 1.5 lakh towards printing the tickets for the final and also the souvenir, but all that has been washed away by the immature government step,'' said the lanky Sikh, who has played Ranji matches for UP and Railways, besides featuring in Zonal tourneys for the Central Zone side.

After the BCCI announced holding matches for benefit of former cricketers, a glimmer of hope came into the lives of such cricketers, but decisions like this and that too at the eleventh hour is bound to deal a body blow to the high-profile sport in the state, he added.

''Earlier, it was the successful hosting of the match that was playing on my mind ....it will now be the recovery of the huge financial loss, that will give me sleepless nights,'' said Jasbir, with an obvious question on who will indemnify him, the state government or UPCA.
