Brisbane:Captain Jimmy Maher hit an unbeaten century to put Queensland in control of the Sheffield Shield final against Victoria at the Gabba here.

Maher plundered the Victorian bowling attack to put Queensland on track for another domestic cricket title.

Maher was unbeaten on 159 after the second day and steered Queensland to within 43 runs of Victoria's first innings total of 344.

The home side scored at almost four runs an over and finished the day at 301 for one with Martin Love (62 not out) also closing in on a century.

Queensland only need to draw the five-day final to claim the title.
